Picard

Trying to watch the new season of Star Trek: Picard. Accidentally started the very first episode of season one instead. I’d forgotten how good an opening it was: Picard is playing poker against Data. The conversation between them prolongs the hand. Data asks Picard why he is stalling. Picard answers: ‘I don’t want the game to end.’

I’ve been looking forward to this new season of Picard for some time. I really want to see how they’ll wrap up the story for Jean-Luc. It will also be interesting to see how they bring back the other members of The Next Generation cast. They did a really good job in the first two seasons of bringing back familiar characters in ways which didn’t seem too contrived.

After season two wrapped up it’s relatively self-contained storyline and, in doing so, tied up the plots for a number of characters, the show runners have a relatively free hand in terms of direction for the third season. One of the minor annoyances will be having to wait for the weekly release of episodes to see where the story goes. It is interesting to see how different streaming services take different approaches to releasing content. Hopefully it will be worth the wait each week!
